Carpenter (about 1819 - before 1910), was a country doctor for whom the town of Carpenter, Kentucky was named.〔 He moved to Whitley County, Kentucky shortly after the American Civil War from neighboring Claiborne County, Tennessee.〔 Carpenter practiced medicine in Whitley County, Bell County, Kentucky, and Knox County, Kentucky from about 1868 into the early 1900s. His ancestry is uncertain, but he may have been the son of Yelverton Carpenter and Hannah Allen and born in Tennessee. He married Edy Allie Grantum and had at least one child named Jerry M. Carpenter who was born about 1848.〔Carpenters' Encyclopedia of Carpenters 2009 (DVD format), Subject is RIN 120906.〕 The town of Carpenter, Kentucky was named after him.
